Ayman’s class about Jerusalem

We had a guest speaker come to our class to talk to us about Palestinians in Jerusalem. His name is Ayman. Here are my answers to his questions:

1. Give an example of a problem that Palestinians face in Jerusalem.

The Israelis tear down people’s homes and build the settlements.

2. Write about something you learnt about Jerusalem today that you did not know before.

I learnt about the lives of people who live in Jerusalem and how it is difficult.

3. What is your opinion about the settlements?

It is very big drag because the Israelis want to have the majority in Jerusalem.

4. Has your opinion of Palestinians outside of the West Bank changed?

Some Palestinians outside of Palestine have feelings towards Palestine but some do not have any feelings at all because they love their lives outside of Palestine so their heart is not with Palestine anymore.

In class we watched a documentary about Palestinian hip hop artists and here are the answers to our discussion questions.

Why is this way of communication important?

Because the people know more about Gaza and become aware of many important people in Palestine

What did they want to acheive in the documentary?

They want to have the right to return to Palestine and want to free Palestinian people.

How did this film make you feel?

I feel that the Palestininan people and the Palestinian land are very important. The Israelis coming into Palestine and making war here take away from the wealth of Palestine.

Do you think it will help the people’s stories get heard?

Yes but some people, especially the King, do not understand this opinion. They want to have the land because it offers many materials .

Recipe for a traditional Palestinian dish

Al Mjadarah

You need rice, lentils, oil and salt

Instructions:

1. Put the right amount of rice in water

2. Boil the lentils

3. When the lentils are rady, you must put the rice in and mix it together.

4. Add salt and oil

5. Mix them together in a pot

6. Put pot on a very high heat

7. Make a salad and offer both.

Here is a poem I wrote:

Palestinian

Palestinian Palestinian
I’m a Palestinian child

and Jerusalem is in my heart
a symbol of love and fidelity

All my country’s good
very many fields

From palm tree and pomeranate
and olives and from figs

From my spirit I sacrifice my land
I am a Palestinian child.

I wrote my poem to explain how I am a Palestinian girl. I understand the glory of Palestine because I live in it and I learn about it and I love living my life in Palestine with my family and my friends.

Yesterday I visited my friend Ashar, and i asked her questions questions about her life.

1. What do you want to study in university?

I want to study Medicine becuase I love this job because its like my fathers.

2. Where do you go to school?

I go to school at Yasser Arafat school.

3. What is your favorite sport?

My favorite sport is basketball cause I love this sport very much and I feel powerful.

4. Would you like to travel inside or outside of Palestine?

I would like to travel outside of Palestine to Paris because it’s beautiful and I want to visit the Eifel Tower.

5. Tell me about Palestine.

Palestine is a beautiful country and is famous for olive oil and has very old places.

Autobiography

My name is Yara abu Ali. I am 13 years old and I am the first child in my family. This year I finished the 7th grade. I live in Nablus city in Palestine. I love the English language. I live in Palestine so I have a good feel for my land and my people. My mission when I am finished school is to study languages at Beir Zeit University so I can help my pupils in the future to understand this language. I also want to travel outside Palestine such as to America.

Palestine is a famous country and it has an old civilization. The Sameritans lived here and made their civilization. It is famous for green fields, olives trees and olive oil.
